According to a new survey, more than 70% of secondary school students in the United States are using AI chatbots for homework assistance.
San Jose high school student from The Harker School in California, who helped conduct the survey, mentioned, “I’ve noticed many of my classmates using AI large language models (LLMs), especially ChatGPT, for a lot of school assignments.”
San, along with researchers from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and the University of California, Santa Barbara, surveyed 306 students from grades 6 to 12 to determine how often they use AI chatbots for homework.
The results, published on the arXiv server, revealed that 71% of students reported using large language models (LLMs) at least once for their homework. This usage rate is higher than that of adults using AI chatbots.
Students reported using LLMs for a variety of subjects, including language arts, history, and math assignments.
