Digital Literacy-Sharjah Launches Bilingual Tech Dictionary

-

At the 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair, the Sharjah Digital Department unveiled a landmark initiative to advance Arabic digital content and foster technological awareness.

HE Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director General of the Sharjah Digital Department, presented the “Technology Terms Dictionary” to HE Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority. Developed by the Sharjah Cybersecurity Centre, this bilingual (Arabic-English) dictionary serves as an invaluable resource for IT and cybersecurity professionals.

The initiative underscores the Department’s commitment to expanding technological knowledge and enriching Arabic digital content. Sheikh Saud acknowledged the Sharjah Book Fair’s pivotal role in supporting intellectual and cultural innovation by gifting Al Ameri a special edition of the dictionary.

HE Sheikh Saud Al Qasimi emphasized that the dictionary reflects the Department’s belief in the transformative power of the written word to promote culture and awareness, cementing Sharjah’s status as a hub for knowledge and scientific research. The dictionary’s inclusion of key terms in computing, cybersecurity, IT, and artificial intelligence ensures its relevance in an era of rapid technological advancement.

“Our commitment to fostering information literacy inspired this specialised dictionary, created as a clear and accessible guide to modern technical terminology,” stated Sheikh Saud.

Echoing these sentiments, HE Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri highlighted SIBF’s role in championing projects like this dictionary. “The Sharjah International Book Fair provides a global platform for innovative initiatives that enhance digital literacy and open new avenues for researchers and technology enthusiasts, aligning with Sharjah’s vision of advancing Arabic digital content,” he said.

Offering a comprehensive glossary of technical terms, the dictionary bridges the gap between technology and language. Both printed and digital editions are available, with the digital version accessible online, ensuring global reach and convenience for users.
