Former Cricketer and Businessman Appointed to Lead Pakistan Cricket Board
Zaka Ashraf has taken charge as the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after Najam Sethi stepped down. Ashraf was appointed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on July 5, 2023.
Ashraf is a former cricketer and businessman. He served as PCB chairman from 2015 to 2017. During his previous tenure, he oversaw the team’s successful tour of England in 2016.
Ashraf’s appointment comes at a time when the PCB is facing a number of challenges, including the financial crisis and the ongoing battle with the International Cricket Council (ICC). He will be tasked with addressing these challenges and leading the PCB into a new era.
In a statement, Ashraf said that he was “honored” to be appointed PCB chairman and that he was “committed to working hard to make Pakistan cricket a force to be reckoned with.”
He added that he would “work closely with the PCB staff and stakeholders to ensure that Pakistan cricket regains its rightful place in the world.”
Ashraf’s appointment has been welcomed by the PCB’s stakeholders. The PCB Players’ Association said that they were “confident” that Ashraf would “steer the PCB through these challenging times.”
The PCB’s former chairman, Najam Sethi, also congratulated Ashraf on his appointment. Sethi said that he was “confident” that Ashraf would “take Pakistan cricket to new heights.”
