Cricket Australia Launches Multicultural Ambassador Program

Cricket Australia on Wednesday announced names of former Pakistan and Indian stars Wasim Akram and Ravi Shastri among the 54 representatives of its ‘Multicultural Ambassadors Program‘.

This diverse group represents a wide range of cultural backgrounds, including Indian, Sri Lankan, Pakistani, Indigenous Australian, Bangladeshi, Nepali, and Afghani communities.

The program, part of the Australian Cricket Multicultural Action Plan, aims to enhance inclusivity and foster positive change in cricket and the broader community. Ambassadors such as Wasim Akram, Usman Khawaja, Mel Jones, Ravi Shastri, and Fawad Ahmed will support the plan’s objectives, focusing on participation, high performance, representation, communication, and events.

Nick Hockley, CEO of Cricket Australia, highlighted the initiative’s dedication to diversity and inclusion, emphasizing the ambassadors’ role in creating opportunities and dismantling barriers within the sport. “We are thrilled to welcome such a dynamic and diverse group as Multicultural Ambassadors. Their collective leadership, expertise, and passion will be instrumental in driving meaningful change and fostering a more inclusive cricketing community.”

Usman Khawaja and Lisa Sthalekar, among the appointed ambassadors, expressed pride in their roles, underscoring cricket’s potential to connect communities and promote unity and understanding.

Cricket Australia’s Multicultural Ambassador Program aims to reflect contemporary Australian society and ensure cricket remains an inclusive sport for all, promoting collaboration and collective action.
