Indian cricket sensation Shubman Gill, who starred in the Edgbaston Test with a record-breaking 430 runs across both innings, may now be in hot water — and it has nothing to do with his batting!
Gill smashed 269 runs in the first innings and followed up with 161 in the second, leading India to a spectacular win. But amid the celebrations, a costly mistake could land the BCCI in trouble.
During India’s second innings, when the team declared at 427/6, Gill walked out wearing Nike tights — a direct violation of the BCCI’s official sponsorship deal with Adidas.
According to the rules, Indian players are strictly required to wear only Adidas-branded apparel and gear under the ₹250 crore deal that runs from 2023 to March 2028.
By stepping onto the field in Nike gear, Gill may have breached the contract, putting Adidas’s massive sponsorship deal at risk.
If Adidas takes issue with the violation, this minor-looking slip-up could end up costing the Indian cricket board hundreds of crores — all because of one pair of tights!
