“Shakib Al Hasan in Legal Crisis – Accused in Murder Case Linked to Recent Protests”

-

DHAKA: Shakib Al Hasan, the prominent Bangladeshi cricketer and former lawmaker, is in serious legal trouble following the filing of a murder case against him in Dhaka.

The complaint was lodged by Rafiqul Islam, the father of Rubel, who was killed during a protest on August 5.

The case, filed at Adabor police station, implicates 156 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Minister Obaidul Quader.

According to the FIR, during the protest on Ring Road, shots were fired into the crowd as part of a criminal conspiracy, leading to Rubel’s death on August 7.

Shakib Al Hasan, 37, who was recently cleared by Bangladesh’s interim government to compete in a Test series against Pakistan, is accused of being loyal to the ousted leader Sheikh Hasina.

Hasina’s resignation earlier this month and subsequent flight from the country has fueled tensions.

Shakib, celebrated for his cricket achievements with 4,505 runs and 237 Test wickets, had previously been elected uncontested as an MP for the Awami League.

The situation remains tense as protests demand his removal and further action against those involved.
