It is a debate that continues to rage among football fans around the globe that who is great. Whether it is Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo who is the game’s greatest player ?
The enduring rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, which has captivated football fans worldwide for over a decade, extends beyond their on-field brilliance to their market values.
Despite their contrasting styles and personalities, both players have consistently pushed the boundaries of excellence in football, accumulating numerous individual accolades and team successes.
While Ronaldo currently holds a market value of €15 million, and Messi is valued at €30 million, their values have fluctuated over time, with Messi’s recent decrease marking a shift in their longstanding trend.
The Inter Miami star’s value has decreased in recent times by €5 million, while Al Nassr’s player price tag has remained the same since June 2023, Media reported. This is the first time Messi’s market value has decreased after joining in David Beckham’s Inter Miami.
However, Messi has had a greater market value than Ronaldo since 2009.
Before this, while he played with Paris Saint-Germain for MLS, the Argentina superstar was worth €35 million. The last time Ronaldo possessed a higher market value than Messi was in 2008, when the Portuguese (then 23) was worth €60 million, while the Argentine (then 21) was valued at €55 million.
Ronaldo’s worth was surpassed by Messi since then, along with him reaching his highest market value at 30 in 2018 (€180 million).
Notably, the best Ronaldo did in this aspect came in 2014, whereas, at 29 he reached a €120 million value.
