The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has disclosed the details of players’ contracts following their team’s early departure from the T20 World Cup 2024, as reported by The News.
The board is considering adjustments to these contracts, potentially demoting some players due to poor performance and possibly terminating contracts altogether for others.
According to the current central contracts,
Category A players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi receive Rs4.5 million monthly.
Category B players such as Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah are paid Rs3 million monthly.
Category C and D players, including Imad Wasim, Iftikhar Ahmed, Hasan Ali, and Saim Ayub, earn between Rs750,000 to Rs1.5 million per month.
These figures solely represent the base salaries, with players also receiving match fees, win bonuses across Test, ODI, and T20 formats, as well as sponsorship benefits.
Last year, the current three-year contracts were awarded following pressure from players under then-PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf for increased pay.
Despite potential demotions, the salaries of national cricketers will reportedly remain unchanged. However, there are concerns that players might reject central contracts if demoted, opting to play independently.
PCB is awaiting reports from head coach Gary Kirsten and senior manager Wahab Riaz, which will influence final decisions regarding player contracts.
