On Sunday, Paris bid a triumphant “au revoir” to the Olympics, wrapping up a globally celebrated event.
The closing ceremony, held at the Stade de France, dazzled approximately 71,500 spectators and marked the end of what many have hailed as one of the greatest Olympic editions ever.
The ceremony featured around 270 artists and performers, with an estimated 9,000 athletes parading into the venue.
The festivities began with French swimming star Leon Marchand, a four-time gold medalist, carrying the Olympic flame from the cauldron in Paris to the Stade de France.
This spectacular event also launched the four-year countdown to the Los Angeles Olympics, with Hollywood actor Tom Cruise expected to preview the 2028 Games.
The ceremony concluded 17 days of extraordinary sporting action set against iconic Parisian landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Chateau de Versailles.
Unlike the rain-soaked opening ceremony on the River Seine, the final event took place under the setting sun in Paris.
On the final day, the United States narrowly surpassed China for the top spot in the medal count.
The U.S. women’s basketball team secured the last gold by defeating France 67-66, marking their eighth consecutive Olympic gold.
This win left the USA tied with China at 40 golds each, but the USA led the overall medal tally with 126 medals, ahead of China’s 91.
