-

In a notable achievement for Pakistani sports, Ayesha Mumtaz from Sargodha has won a medal at the Asian Junior and School Boxing Championship in Al Ain City, Abu Dhabi.

Ayesha earned her place in the semifinals with a standout performance in the quarterfinals, ensuring at least a bronze medal.

She demonstrated her skill and strategy by defeating Thi Hong Yen Nguyen from Vietnam. This victory not only awarded her a bronze but also makes her the second female Pakistani boxer to medal at the Asian Boxing Championships.

Competing in the pinweight (46kg) category, Mumtaz exhibited exceptional technique and strategic prowess, particularly with her left-handed hooks and precise attacks.

The only other female Pakistani to achieve this was Hadiya Kamal, who won bronze in 2022 through a direct semi-final entry.

The Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) praised Mumtaz’s success, highlighting the dedication of both the athlete and her support team.

PBF President Muhammad Khalid Mahmood congratulated Mumtaz, her coach, and her family, emphasizing her accomplishment as a testament to the potential of Pakistani athletes on the international stage.

The federation remains committed to fostering young talent and looks forward to more achievements from Mumtaz and other emerging athletes.
