Colombia Triumphs 2-1 Over Messi-less Argentina in Thrilling Fifa World Cup Qualifier

-

In a thrilling encounter, Colombia edged past Argentina 2-1 in the 2026 CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers.

Colombia secured the victory with goals from James Rodriguez and Yerson Mosquera, while Nicolas Gonzalez scored Argentina’s lone goal.

Argentina was missing their captain and star player, Lionel Messi, who is recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the Copa America 2024 final against Colombia.

In a highly physical game, marked by some controversial referee decisions, Nestor Lorenzo’s Colombia remained unbeaten in the qualifiers.

Despite the defeat, Argentina’s coach Lionel Scaloni matched the 79-game milestone previously set by Cesar Luis Menotti and Carlos Bilardo.

Only Guillermo Stábile, who managed 124 matches and won six Copa America titles, has overseen more games for Argentina.
