Kohli’s Courtside Revelation-“Tennis Pressure Can Beat India-Pakistan Cricket Thrill!”

-

London –Former Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli recently made an unexpected yet eye-opening comparison between Wimbledon tennis and the high-octane India-Pakistan World Cup matches.

While watching the Round of 16 clash between Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and Australia’s Alex de Minaur at Wimbledon, Kohli shared his thoughts on the intense pressure of top-level tennis.

“The pressure on Centre Court is insane — at times it feels even more intense than a big cricket match,” Kohli said during a chat with Star Sports.

He explained that while cricket matches are packed with pressure, it doesn’t always hit as hard — especially when batting — because crowd noise and criticism don’t reach you the same way. The real pressure, he said, kicks in when you’re fielding near the boundary.

Praising the mental and physical toughness of tennis players, Kohli added:

“Every single point in tennis matters — it can flip the match in seconds. The stress is constant and huge. I truly admire the fitness and focus these players bring to the court.”

Kohli drew a sharp parallel to cricket by saying that only a handful of matches — like an India vs Pakistan World Cup clash — carry similar tension.

“During those matches, especially in semifinals or finals, your legs genuinely feel shaky. But tennis players face that kind of pressure from the quarterfinals onwards!”

Kohli recently retired from T20 internationals after being named Player of the Match in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. Earlier in May 2024, he stepped away from Test cricket as well, though he remains available for ODIs.
