Jason Gillespie’s short and stormy tenure as Pakistan’s head coach in 2024 has left him questioning his future in coaching. In a raw interview, the former Australian fast bowler admitted that the experience had “soured” his passion for coaching, leaving him unsure about accepting full-time roles again.

In a shocking admission on the Wisden Cricket Weekly podcast, Gillespie bluntly stated, “Right now, I’m not sure I’m interested in coaching full-time,” even going so far as to rule out any future coaching role with Australia.
Gillespie’s stint as Pakistan’s red-ball coach, which began in April 2024, ended abruptly in December due to explosive internal conflicts and communication breakdowns with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Although he briefly led Pakistan’s white-ball team to a historic ODI series win in Australia, he stepped down immediately afterward, leaving many stunned.
The drama didn’t stop there. Gillespie had no qualms about his strained relationship with Aqib Javed, his successor as interim head coach. He harshly called Javed “a clown” and criticized the internal politics that made his job impossible, stating, “The internal politics and lack of cohesion made the job untenable.”
Reflecting on the fallout, Gillespie confessed, “The Pakistan experience has soured my love for coaching, I’ll be honest,” adding that the ordeal had made him rethink his future in coaching.
Though stepping away from full-time roles, Gillespie hinted at a possible return to coaching, but
