DUBAI – India’s refusal to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from ACC Chairman and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi has sparked global outrage, with fans, cricketers, and analysts calling it the “ugliest day in cricket.”
The Asia Cup 2025 final ended in chaos as India defeated Pakistan but refused to receive the trophy from ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Sources say the move was under BCCI directives, seen as an attempt to politicize the game. Naqvi stood firm, refusing to hand over the trophy elsewhere.
The ceremony ended awkwardly, with Indian players standing by while the trophy was carried away. Fans and experts slammed India’s unsporting behavior, calling it a blow to cricket’s spirit.
Cricket analyst Dr. Nauman Niaz said,
“Trophies don’t make champions — grace and poise do. India lost more than they won today.”
Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif called it “disgraceful,” adding that such conduct would face suspension in other sports.
Human rights activist Marvi Sarmad called it a “new low,” and politician Shireen Mazari described India’s behavior as “petty and pathetic.” Veteran journalist Fahd Husain summed it up: “India played well, but their arrogance embarrassed the game.”
The incident has sparked one of cricket’s biggest controversies, raising questions about sportsmanship, politics, and India’s influence in world cricket.
