The International Cricket Council (ICC) has formally asked the Indian Cricket Board to provide written justification for its firm refusal to play in Pakistan, responding to a request from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for official documentation of India’s position.
The financial stakes are substantial, with the ICC facing potential losses of up to $500 million in broadcast rights, advertisements, and sponsorships if India stands by its decision. The absence of India-Pakistan matches alone could cost the Indian board approximately $100 million.
While India initially informed the ICC of its refusal verbally, the council now seeks a written statement, which could enable Pakistan to demand clear evidence for India’s withdrawal.
If India’s reasons are deemed insufficient, the ICC may press India to participate in the Pakistan leg of the tournament, sources suggest.
The ICC will evaluate India’s written response before making a final decision on the issue.
