Former Indian cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar has predicted that Rohit Sharma might step down from his captaincy. According to Indian media, Gavaskar stated that if Rohit fails to perform in Melbourne and Sydney, he will likely step down voluntarily without waiting for the selectors’ decision. Gavaskar added that Rohit is certain to play the last two Test matches of the series.
Speculations about Rohit’s retirement surfaced after his reaction to being dismissed against Australia. Gavaskar further commented that if Rohit doesn’t score runs in the final two matches, he believes the captain will step away from the team on his own.
The former captain also emphasized that Rohit Sharma is a team-oriented player and will never become a burden on the squad.
It is worth noting that the five-match Test series between India and Australia is currently tied at 1-1.
