“Farewell to International Cricket” – Moeen Ali Announces Retirement

-

Moeen Ali, a prominent figure in international cricket, has officially announced his retirement at the age of 37, bringing a celebrated career to a close.

His retirement marks the end of a distinguished career that included 298 international appearances, 68 of which were in Test matches.

The decision was anticipated. After retiring from Test cricket and being excluded from this month’s T20 series against Australia, Moeen’s retirement signals the end of his time in international cricket. England is now focused on building a new white-ball team for the 2026 T20 World Cup and the 2027 ODI World Cup.

“I will miss the experience of wearing the shirt and feeling the support of the crowd,” Moeen said on Sky Sports.

“I’ll miss the changing room and the camaraderie with the team. I’ve done my part and my job, but it’s time for the next generation. I’m very comfortable with this decision.”

Former teammate Stuart Broad remarked, “Moeen is one of my favorite teammates. I first shared a dressing room with him for an Under-17s match against Bangladesh Under-19s, and we connected instantly. He has a great personality and brings a relaxed, humorous vibe to the team. He cared deeply about playing for England and winning games.”

While retiring from international cricket, Moeen will continue to play in franchise cricket around the world. His combination of left-handed power-hitting and off-spin makes him a highly sought-after player, and he eventually hopes to transition into coaching.
