Babar Azam Surpasses Virat Kohli to Become Second-Highest Run-Scorer in Men’s T20Is

-

HOBART: In a remarkable achievement, Pakistan’s Babar Azam has now secured the second spot in the all-time list of leading run-scorers in men’s T20 Internationals. This milestone comes after he surpassed India’s Virat Kohli during the third T20I against Australia on Monday. Despite Pakistan’s loss in the series, Babar’s individual achievement has made headlines, marking a significant moment in his career.

Babar achieved the milestone during Pakistan’s final match of the three-match series at Bellerive Oval. With his 41 runs, Babar now has 4,192 runs in T20I cricket, edging out Kohli, who has 4,188 runs. India’s Rohit Sharma still holds the top spot with 4,231 runs.

To become the all-time leading run-scorer, Babar now needs just 40 more runs to surpass Sharma, who, along with Kohli, announced his retirement from T20I cricket after India’s victory in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Babar is now joined by Pakistan’s current white-ball captain, Mohammad Rizwan, as the only other Pakistani batter in the Top 10 for most T20I runs.

However, Babar’s recent performances have been mixed. Despite his record-breaking achievement, he struggled in the ODI series against Australia, scoring just 80 runs over three matches. His form continued to falter in the T20I series, where he registered scores of just three runs in the first two matches before his notable 41 in the final game.
