Babar Azam’s Spectacular Performance in T20I Puts Him Close to Breaking Rohit Sharma’s Record

-

The Pakistan cricket team’s captain, Babar Azam, has already struck three T20I hundreds in a five-match series against New Zealand, which began on Saturday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. With this, he is on the verge of surpassing Indian player Rohit Sharma’s record, who now occupies the top spot on the International Cricket Council (ICC) list with four centuries. Only Babar, a top batter with the most T20I tonnes, is a Pakistani player with more than one century in the format. Along with Rohit and Babar, the list also includes the players Sabawoon Davizi of the Czech Republic, Glenn Maxwell of Australia, Colin Munro of New Zealand, and Suryakumar Yadav of India.

With an outstanding 99-run opening stand with wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan, Babar significantly contributed to his team securing a 2-0 lead during the game. Babar maintained his impressive performance after Matt Henry’s dismissal of Rizwan, scoring a half-century in just 36 balls and then slamming 51 runs off the following 22 deliveries, including 36 runs off the final three overs. In the penultimate over, he smacked James Neesham for two fours and a six, and the final ball of the innings saw him reach 100 runs. Additionally, Babar’s stellar play assisted his team in limiting their opponents to 154/7.

In conclusion, Babar Azam’s outstanding performance has now put him on the verge of breaking the record currently held by Indian batsman Rohit Sharma, who has four T20I centuries. Babar helped his team secure a 2-0 lead with an outstanding performance and is currently among the top hitters in terms of most T20I tonnes.
