Indian comedian Munawar Faruqui is once again at the center of a heated debate, as his show Hafta Vasooli faces legal trouble over allegations of hurting religious sentiments and promoting obscenity. Right-wing groups have intensified their opposition, calling for a ban.
According to Indian media, Advocate Amita Sachdeva shared a complaint on her X account, accusing Faruqui’s show of promoting obscenity, insulting religions, and violating cultural values. The complaint also claims the show negatively influences the youth, with a request for an FIR under the IT Act and other relevant laws.
Adding to the fire, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has also demanded a ban, citing the use of offensive language that they deem unacceptable for public consumption.
The controversy gained further momentum after podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks on India’s Got Latent about “parental relationships” sparked widespread backlash. FIRs have also been registered against Ranveer, Samay Raina, and others involved in the episode.
Faruqui’s Hafta Vasooli has been no stranger to criticism over religious and cultural sensitivities. Now, with legal troubles mounting, the question remains—will the show be banned, or will Faruqui find a way to turn the tide?
