British singer Thom Yorke of Radiohead has announced he will not perform in Israel in protest against the ongoing violence in Gaza, expressing solidarity with Palestinians and criticizing the Netanyahu government.
Amid global outrage over Israel’s attacks on Gaza, Radiohead’s frontman Thom Yorke said that he will not perform anywhere in Israel, including events associated with the Netanyahu government. In an interview with The Sunday Times, alongside the band’s bassist Jonny Greenwood, Yorke emphasized his decision to stand with Palestinians.
Reflecting on Radiohead’s 2017 concert in Tel Aviv, Yorke said influential figures had framed their performance politically, which left him uncomfortable. Fellow band member Ed O’Brien also expressed regret over performing in Israel, noting that a show in Ramallah would have been more appropriate.
This statement comes ahead of Radiohead’s new world tour starting next month, marking their first tour in seven years. The controversy echoes broader international actions, including sports bans on Israeli participation, as global condemnation of the Gaza violence grows.
