After years of controversy, speculation, and high-profile investigations, the mystery surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput’s death has finally been put to rest. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially closed the case, ruling out foul play and giving a clean chit to actress Rhea Chakraborty and her family.
The 34-year-old actor was found hanging in his Bandra apartment on June 14, 2020, sparking widespread conspiracy theories, including claims of Bollywood’s nepotism playing a role. The CBI’s extensive probe, involving forensic analysis, technical data from the U.S., and expert medical consultations, found no evidence of coercion or financial fraud.
The investigation primarily focused on two cases—one filed by Rajput’s father, accusing Chakraborty of abetment to suicide and financial misconduct, and another by Chakraborty against Rajput’s sister for allegedly procuring psychiatric drugs illegally. Both cases were dismissed due to lack of evidence.
The agency formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and consulted AIIMS Delhi, which confirmed in 2020 that Rajput’s death resulted from asphyxia due to hanging, with no signs of struggle. Despite analyzing digital data and questioning multiple individuals, including film industry figures, no foul play was detected.
The CBI has now submitted its closure report, and if the court accepts it, the case will be officially shut. Rajput’s family lawyer has yet to comment on the development.
