Bollywood superstar Anil Kapoor and his wife Sunita Kapoor’s daughter, actress Sonam Kapoor, has revealed that she struggled with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) during her youth. PCOS is a common hormonal disorder that affects women, leading to symptoms like irregular periods, weight gain, acne, and excess hair growth.
Known for her unique fashion sense and style, Sonam Kapoor is considered a fashion icon, but what many may not know is that the confident and happy actress has not always been sure about her appearance.
Sonam recently recalled her difficult moments in an interview, opening up about her battle with PCOS. She explained that she suffered from hormonal issues due to PCOS, which also caused weight gain and facial hair, leading to unpleasant comments and teasing in her childhood.
She shared that at the age of 16, when most girls are considered to be at their most beautiful, she faced changes in her body that made her feel self-conscious. “I had hair on my face, and my skin was breaking out,” she said. “People would make cruel comments, calling me ‘Anil Kapoor’s daughter’ and teasing me.”
Sonam revealed that it was her mother who helped her regain confidence by showing her a picture of Kajol, who had embraced her ‘unibrow’ and was considered one of the top actresses at the time. This moment helped Sonam accept herself and rebuild her confidence.
As for her film career, Sonam started working as an assistant director on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2005 film Black at just 17. She made her acting debut in Bhansali’s 2007 film Saawariya.
In her personal life, Sonam Kapoor married businessman Anand Ahuja on May 8, 2018, and they welcomed their son on August 20, 2022.
