Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut is once again in legal trouble as a Mumbai court has warned that a non-bailable warrant could be issued against her in a defamation case filed by veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar. With nearly 40 missed hearings, the court has now given her a final chance to appear.
Kangana’s lawyer, Rizwan Siddiqui, told the court that she couldn’t attend due to parliamentary sessions. However, Javed Akhtar’s lawyer, J.K. Bhardwaj, argued that her repeated absences warranted strict action.
The court has directed her legal team to submit a response and made it clear—this is her last chance. If she fails to appear, a non-bailable warrant will be issued.
The controversy dates back to 2016 when Javed Akhtar allegedly invited Kangana to his home and urged her to apologize to Hrithik Roshan. In 2020, Kangana mentioned this in a TV interview, prompting Akhtar to sue her for defamation.
Despite both parties agreeing to mediation in December 2024, no resolution has been reached, and the case continues to escalate.
