Renowned Indian music composer AR Rahman has recently taken legal action against social media channels and YouTubers spreading defamatory content following the announcement of his separation from his wife, Saira Banu. This move comes after rumors about their personal lives began circulating online.
The speculation grew when Rahman and Saira Banu’s separation coincided with bassist Mohini Dey’s divorce from her husband, Mark. This led to unfounded connections being made between the two events, prompting Rahman’s legal team to intervene.
In a statement shared on social media, Rahman’s team condemned the spread of false and malicious content, accusing certain platforms of fabricating stories about the couple’s private lives. The notice read, “It has come to our attention that some social media platforms and several YouTubers are circulating defamatory material, including interviews discussing the failure of their marriage.”
Rahman’s legal team demanded the immediate removal of the objectionable content, with a deadline of no more than 24 hours. “We ask that all hateful and abusive content be taken down within the next hour, or by the latest, within 24 hours,” the notice warned.
Earlier, the couple had issued a joint statement announcing their divorce and requesting privacy during this sensitive time. Rahman later shared a screenshot of the legal notice on his social media with the caption, “Notice to all slanderers from ARR’s Legal Team.”
