In a move reflecting cultural and religious observance, the Sindh Education Department has announced a province-wide holiday for educational institutions on January 28 to mark Shab-e-Miraj, a significant Islamic event.
The official notification, issued Thursday, confirms the closure of public and private schools, colleges, and affiliated institutions. This decision, applicable to all establishments under the department’s jurisdiction, allows students and staff to observe the sacred occasion, commemorating the Prophet Muhammad’s night journey and ascension, without academic responsibilities.
No adjustments to academic schedules or makeup days have been announced. However, the department emphasized that the holiday aligns with standard protocols for religious observances in Sindh. Shab-e-Miraj, observed on the 27th day of Rajab in the Islamic calendar, is a spiritually significant event for Muslims worldwide. Based on lunar cycles, Sindh’s authorities have designated January 28 as this year’s date.
This is the second recent religious holiday in Sindh, following the closure on December 18 for Eid Milad-un-Nabi. The announcement highlights the province’s tradition of granting holidays for major Islamic events, reflecting its commitment to cultural and religious values.
District education officers and institutional heads have been notified to ensure compliance, and parents and students are encouraged to monitor official updates for any further information.
