The National Assembly’s IT and Telecom Standing Committee summoned the PTA Chairman to address recent WhatsApp issues and internet slowdowns in Pakistan.
During the meeting, the IT Minister announced plans to introduce 5G technology by early 2025 and proposed creating a new Telecommunications Appellate Tribunal to handle cases currently in the High Courts.
The committee also emphasized the need for transparency in tribunal appointments and recommended that the Law and Justice Department clarify the appointment process.
Members highlighted the potential economic benefits of the IT sector while expressing concerns about current mobile phone taxes.
