The Karachi police have set up a special investigation team to thoroughly investigate the Karsaz Road.
Accident that occurred on August 19, where a woman is accused of causing the deaths of 60-year-old Imran Arif and his daughter, Amna Arif.
The investigation has uncovered inconsistencies in the woman’s statements, raising concerns about her account of the incident. The suspect was reportedly driving from her home in DHA Scheme-I to her in-laws’ house when the tragic accident happened. The vehicle involved is registered under a private company’s name.
Police have collected all available CCTV footage of the incident, which is currently being reviewed. The results of a blood test conducted on the driver are expected soon and could lead to additional charges being added to the case.
The police have added Section 322, which deals with unintentional murder, to the case. This could result in a prison sentence of 10 to 18 years or a financial settlement, where the driver would pay compensation equivalent to 30,360 grams of silver, valued at around Rs 6.8 million. If the victims’ family agrees to this settlement, the case could be resolved.
Meanwhile, the police continue to search for more CCTV footage to strengthen their case.
The DIG East has urged other victims, who were injured or had their property damaged, to come forward and share their accounts with the police. He visited the victims’ family to offer condolences and assured them of full legal support, emphasizing the police’s commitment to delivering justice.
The woman accused of causing the accident is currently in judicial custody as the investigation continues. The court has also requested a medical report on the suspect to ensure all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined.
It should be noted that the woman — who ran over Amna, Imran Arif and injured five others on Monday at the Karsaz Road — is currently in judicial custody following orders by a Karachi East court a day after it ordered its production in the court and sought a medical report regarding the suspect.
