Karachi shook — but not just from the tremors! In a wild turn of events, 216 inmates escaped from Malir Jail late at night as minor earthquake shocks triggered panic and mayhem inside the prison walls.

As chaos erupted, prisoners climbed over walls and vanished into nearby neighborhoods. Security forces rushed in, shots were fired, and one inmate was killed. Twelve others, including police and FC personnel, were injured in the mayhem.
From Jailbreak to Huntdown
So far, 94 prisoners have been recaptured, but 122 remain on the run, turning this into a massive manhunt. Frightening CCTV footage shows inmates sneaking through alleyways as law enforcement scrambles to track them down.
Superintendent Arshad Shah revealed he was attacked when he arrived on the scene. He claimed only 28 staff members were on duty during the breakout and most escapees were under-trial, drug-related offenders without standard prison uniforms.
CM Sindh Furious: Calls It Criminal Negligence
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah called the escape a result of gross negligence. He said removing inmates from their cells due to tremors was a disastrous decision and ordered strict punishment for responsible jail staff. He confirmed over 6,000 inmates were in the jail, and 216 escaped, sparking a full-blown crisis.
Crackdown in Full Swing
Karachi police, Rangers, FC, and special units are conducting intense operations around the jail and across the city. No inmate visits were allowed today, causing distress among worried families gathered outside.
Following the breakout, Malir Jail’s DIG and Superintendent were suspended, along with over 20 jail staff members.
The Great Karachi Jailbreak: Still No End in Sight
Despite 24 hours of non-stop efforts, over 120 prisoners are still at large, making this one of the biggest jailbreaks in Pakistan’s recent history. Cases have been filed, security is on red alert, and officials are racing against time before things spiral further.
