Karachi Traffic Paralysed by Protests Over Parachinar Crisis

-

Protests by the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) in response to the crisis in Parachinar, Kurram district, have caused major traffic problems in Karachi. The protests have created big roadblocks, making it hard for people to travel.

Traffic police are advising people to take other routes, but these roads are also very crowded because of the protests.

It is surprising that Parachinar is in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where MWM’s ally, PTI, governs, yet no protests have been reported there.

The protest demonstrations, which have continued for six consecutive days, are being held at 14 different locations, including major thoroughfares.

The main protest is happening at Numaish Chowrangi whereas other areas, demonstrations are currently taking place Natha Khan Bridge on Sharea Faisal, in front of KDA Flats in Surjani Town, Golimar, Power House Chowrangi, near Safari Park on University Road, Korangi No. 2½, Five Star Chowrangi in North Nazimabad, Abul Hassan Isphani Road, Kamran Chowrangi in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Incholi Society, and near Ayesha Manzil

Last night, traffic jams were very bad on main roads and alternate routes, with people stuck for hours.

Although traffic is lighter because of the weekend, the alternative routes are still very crowded.

Monday is the first working day after the holiday, so it could lead to a disastrous traffic situation in Karachi.
