Karachiites faced severe traffic congestion on Thursday evening due to a protest and sit-in that blocked a major road, according to reports.
Both lanes of the road from Gurumandir to Numaish Chowrangi were temporarily closed to traffic as a result of the ongoing protest, leading to heavy congestion on nearby roads and long queues of vehicles.
Traffic police were seen redirecting vehicles, with those coming from Gurumandir being rerouted via Congress 45 to Peoples Chowrangi. Likewise, traffic from Peoples Chowrangi was diverted toward Corridor 3.
As a result, key areas including Gurumandir, Peoples Chowrangi, Jamshed Road, and Jail Chowrangi were severely affected, with significant disruptions in traffic flow. Additionally, Shaheed e Millat Road, Soldier Bazar, and University Road also saw heavy traffic, leaving commuters stranded and facing difficulty in reaching their destinations after work.
Reports indicate that many travelers experienced major delays, as what would typically be a short journey turned into hours-long commutes due to the blockage.
Meanwhile, addressing the protesters at Numaish, MWM leader Allama Hasan Zafar Naqvi demanded that the government play its due role to restore lasting peace in Kurram.
He said the people of Parachinar were facing a humanitarian crisis as the items of basic needs were not available and in the harsh winter several families were left abandoned at the mercy of armed group.
