“Grief Vs. Hope” – Karachi Zoo Mourns Tigress’s Loss and Celebrates Lion Cubs’ Birth

During a time of both sadness and joy, Karachi Zoo is dealing with the loss of its last Bengal tigress while also celebrating the birth of three lion cubs.

The 30-year-old tigress, a well-loved member of the zoo, died after a long struggle with health issues. This marks another big loss for the zoo, which had also lost an African elephant named Noor Jehan in April 2023.

The tigress’s death highlights the difficulties that aging animals face in captivity and the need for better care.

Despite the sorrow, the birth of three healthy lion cubs has brought excitement to the zoo. The cubs, born to a healthy lioness, have been joyfully welcomed by staff and visitors. The zoo is committed to giving the cubs a safe and supportive environment to grow, while also helping with efforts to protect their species.

This mix of loss and new beginnings is a powerful reminder of the cycle of life in the animal world. Even with the challenges, Karachi Zoo remains dedicated to teaching the public about wildlife and the importance of conservation.
