KARACHI: Karachi’s roads continue to become death traps as reckless heavy traffic claims yet another life. A 19-year-old motorcyclist, Shakir Ali, was fatally struck by a speeding dumper near Karsaz on Shahrah-e-Faisal. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. His body was later handed over to his family.

Amid the surge in fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles, the Sindh government has imposed a ban on dumpers entering Karachi during the daytime.
As per the new directive, these heavy vehicles will only be allowed in the city between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM to curb accidents and ease traffic congestion.
In response to the crisis, traffic police have ramped up enforcement, issuing 34,655 challans, arresting 490 drivers, and revoking 532 vehicle fitness certificates. Additionally, a four-member committee has been formed to investigate the root causes of these accidents and propose safety measures, including reviewing the fitness certifications of oil tanker dumpers and water tankers, along with driver licenses.
