In two separate incidents in Karachi’s Korangi and Defence Housing Authority (DHA), a 20-year-old young man and a businessman were fatally shot by alleged robbers, according to police reports.
Zaman Town Station House Officer (SHO) Malik Ashraf Awan informed Dawn.com that Abdul Basit, the young man, was shot dead after resisting a robbery near Nasir Jump in Korangi. The robbers snatched his belongings and shot him when he resisted.
Meanwhile, in DHA Phase II, Asif Salman Balwani, a 65-year-old businessman, was pursued and shot by robbers after withdrawing Rs1 million from Boat Basin, said South Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Syed Asad Raza.
In both cases, the assailants fled the scene without taking any loot. Unfortunately, Balwani succumbed to his injuries, while Basit lost his life during the robbery attempt.
The police swiftly responded to both incidents, apprehending suspects in Basit’s case and launching investigations into Balwani’s murder.
These incidents are among the recent surge in criminal shootings in Karachi, prompting law enforcement to adopt aggressive strategies to tackle street crimes and ensure public safety.
