Pakistan Ranks 178th in Global Cleanliness Index, Only Ahead of Vietnam and Guinea-Bissau

Population Review has unveiled the list of the cleanest countries in the world for 2024, based on the Environmental Performance Index (EPI).

This ranking, which covers 180 countries, was compiled in collaboration with esteemed institutions such as Yale University, Columbia University, and the World Economic Forum (WEF).

A comprehensive evaluation of 40 different indicators—including environmental health, environmental changes, and overall environmental performance—was used to determine the rankings.

Luxembourg follows closely in second place with an EPI score of 75, while Germany ranks third with a score of 74.6.

The top ten continues with Finland, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, and Denmark, occupying positions fourth to tenth, respectively.

These nations have shown notable improvements in both environmental quality and public health, benefiting from clean water, pure air, and effective sanitation, all of which help reduce disease risks.

However, the rankings also reveal concerning news for some countries. India ranks 175th, Bangladesh 174th, and Pakistan 178th. The bottom two positions are held by Vietnam and Guinea-Bissau, a West African nation.

This data also highlights a critical issue: countries with high levels of pollution tend to have a significantly higher rate of non-communicable diseases, which are responsible for 72% of global deaths.
