Curfew an Option: Mohsin Naqvi Warns of Extreme Measures as Islamabad Tensions Escalate

Islamabad, November 26, 2024 – Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has issued a strong warning, stating that the government may be forced to impose a curfew or deploy the military in Islamabad to maintain order. His remarks come amid rising tensions and ongoing protests in the capital, with Naqvi asserting that no protests or sit-ins will be allowed at D-Chowk.

Speaking to the media, Naqvi confirmed that PTI had been offered a location in Sangjani and had reportedly received approval from Adiala Jail. However, he made it clear that the government would not permit any disruptions at D-Chowk and warned that protesters would be arrested.

The Interior Minister also addressed the rising violence, confirming that security personnel have been targeted, with a ranger shot at Chungi 26. “While gunfire often invites a return response, we are adopting a measured approach,” Naqvi said, emphasizing that the government is prepared for any escalation in the situation.

Naqvi’s comments followed a visit to D-Chowk, where he spoke with security personnel who had raised concerns over inadequate facilities. After receiving complaints from Sindh Police officers, he instructed immediate action to address their grievances and ensure the comfort and safety of officers deployed from other provinces.

In a passionate statement, Naqvi condemned the protestors, linking their actions to the recent martyrdom of a police officer. “These protests have led to loss of life and property damage. We will not tolerate such disruption and will hold those responsible accountable,” he vowed.

As tensions mount, Naqvi warned that any attempt to protest at D-Chowk would be met with force. “Anyone who tries to disrupt the peace will face legal action. We will not relent,” he declared, signaling a tough stance against the ongoing unrest.

The Interior Minister also denied any reports of negotiations with PTI, stating that he had not engaged in any talks. “We are awaiting PTI’s response, and will take appropriate action,” he added, suggesting that more developments are expected in the coming days.

With the situation in Islamabad growing more volatile, Naqvi’s warning underscores the government’s determination to restore order and protect the safety of the public.
