Dao Dao – A Delicious Winter Delight from Gilgit Baltistan

Dow Dow is a delightful dish cherished in the heart of Gilgit Baltistan, especially during the winter months. It’s not just a meal; it’s a cultural emblem, representing our traditions and heritage.

To prepare Dow Dow, start by heating cooking oil and sautéing thinly chopped onions until they turn dark brown. Then, add tomato paste and spices to infuse rich flavor into the dish. Next, add water and allow the mixture to come to a boil.

The secret ingredient, Quroot, adds a unique sour taste that elevates the dish to new heights. Finally, chop Papah bread into noodle-like strips and add them to the simmering mixture. Let it cook for twenty to thirty-five minutes until all the flavors meld together perfectly.

For an extra twist, you can add a variety of vegetables like potatoes, cabbage, peas, celery, or spinach. Adding small pieces of meat can also enhance the dish, creating a wholesome and satisfying meal.
