Non-Seriousness Over Champions Trophy-Jay Shah Heads to Australia for Tea and Talks

-

The ICC Champions Trophy remains stuck in uncertainty, but ICC’s new chairman, Jay Shah, has prioritized a trip to Australia, raising a storm of questions.

Indian media reports that Shah has landed in Brisbane, accompanied by BCCI’s interim secretary, Devajit Saikia. Word is that he’ll attend a meeting about the Olympics and also catch the third India-Australia Test match.

His decision to leave the Champions Trophy mess unresolved has sparked criticism, with many questioning the timing of his visit. Meanwhile, Cricket Australia is seen as aligning with the BCCI on key ICC issues.

Reports also claim the BCCI has agreed to a “fusion formula” for the Champions Trophy but is resisting its application to other events. Additionally, the BCCI has reportedly agreed to hold Pakistan’s group matches at neutral venues for ICC events hosted in India. However, it insists that if Pakistan qualifies for the semifinals or final, those games must happen in India.
