Eid Special – Tempting Mutton Stew for Festive Dining

Indulge in the rich flavors of Eid with this comforting mutton stew, perfect for festive gatherings.

Ingredients:

  • 500g mutton pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 3 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions, garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté until onions turn golden brown.
  3. Add mutton pieces to the pot and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  4. Stir in diced tomatoes and cook until they soften and release their juices.
  5. Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to taste. Mix well to coat the mutton pieces with the spices.
  6. Pour in enough water to cover the mutton pieces. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 1 hour or until the mutton is tender.
  7. Once the mutton is tender, add cubed potatoes, sliced carrots, and chopped bell pepper to the pot. Simmer for another 20-25 minutes or until the vegetables are cooked through.
  8. Adjust seasoning if needed and garnish with fresh cilantro leaves before serving.
  9. Serve hot with rice or crusty bread for a comforting and hearty meal.
