Bizarre World Records: Tiny Park, Widest Tongue & Giant 17-Foot Hula Hoop!

-

Ever imagined a park so small it could fit inside your living room? Japan has just claimed a quirky world record with a park no bigger than a doormat! Located in Nagaizumi, this 2.5-square-foot patch of green has officially been crowned the world’s smallest park by Guinness World Records, stealing the title from Mill Ends Park in Portland, USA, which measured 3.1 square feet.

A Record-Breaking Miniature Marvel

Tucked near Nagaizumi Town Hall, this park was established in 1988 when local officials, inspired by Portland’s tiny park, decided to create something even smaller. Their goal? To set a new world record.

“We intentionally designed it to be tinier than the American park,” said Shuji Koyama, a team leader in the construction management division. That mission has now been fulfilled, as a Guinness World Records adjudicator officially measured and certified the park in December, cementing its place in history.

Big Plans for the Tiny Park

Despite its size, the park has become a source of local pride. Officials plan to maintain and enhance it, making it more visually appealing and social media-friendly to attract visitors.

“We want to maintain this park with the community and create a landscape that draws more people to discover the charm of our town,” Koyama added.

Another Unusual Record: The World’s Widest Tongue

While Japan celebrates its tiny triumph, another quirky record was set in the United States. Texas resident Brittany Lacayo has officially been recognized for having the world’s widest tongue—measuring an incredible 7.90 cm (3.11 inches).

Lacayo’s tongue is nearly as wide as a credit card and 2.5 cm wider than its length from the tip to the middle of her closed top lip, according to Guinness World Records. She dethroned the previous record-holder, who held the title for a decade.
