Kite-flying banned in Karachi to mitigate risks to citizens’ lives

-

The Karachi Commissioner stated that the decision was made in response to the increased risks to citizens’ lives caused by the use of dangerous metal strings in kite flying.

Karachi Commissioner Saleem Rajput has enforced a two-month ban on kite-flying and the sale of string in response to a recent increase in tragic incidents involving deadly kite string.

Implemented under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the ban prohibits kite production, sale, and operation citywide from March 30 to May 29.

The decision aims to address the risks posed by hazardous metal strings commonly used in kite-flying activities, which have resulted in eight injuries. Stressing the dangers associated with kite-flying, the commissioner highlights the paramount importance of safeguarding citizens’ lives, prompting the ban’s imposition.

City authorities anticipate that this measure will reduce kite-flying incidents and enhance the safety and security of residents.
