Hidden Tunnels In New York
New York experienced a surge of sensation this week when a secret tunnel was uncovered and vandalized by the police.
On Tuesday, police barricades restricted access to the renowned Brooklyn Synagogue associated with the influential Hasidic Jewish Movement, where an unsanctioned secret tunnel excavation had been discovered.
Serving as the global headquarters of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement in Crown Heights, this synagogue holds great reverence among various visitors, including international students and religious leaders. The police raid emerged from a community dispute, leading to a confrontation between worshippers and law enforcement.
Debates persisted regarding the purpose and origin of the tunnel that ignited the altercation. According to Motti Seligson, a spokesperson for Chabad, the passage is believed to have originated in the basement of an empty apartment building behind the headquarters, weaving its way under offices and lecture halls before connecting to the synagogue. Nevertheless, this hasn’t deterred a surge in social media posts making allegations about the passage, including claims of child abuse and sex trafficking.
