On “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Bill Hader discussed how the real-life officer who had previously detained him served as the inspiration for his “Superbad” persona. Hader claimed that his father’s love of practical jokes motivated him and his pals to replicate a previous trick by placing two garbage cans on a four-lane street and tying a rope between them. Unfortunately, a police officer who was startled by the noise was the victim of their practical joke. Everyone fled when the cop came out of the car to seek the tricksters, with the exception of Hader, who felt he could pull an act of coolness. However, the officer was not amused and forced him to pick up some beer cans before making an arrest. Hader’s interaction with the police officer influenced his character, Officer Slater, in the hit 2007 comedy.
