“Bullet Came From Behind” — Fresh Findings Point More Toward Murder Than Suicide, Family Satisfied
The mystery surrounding 25-year-old Mir Raza Ali’s death has taken a dramatic turn after his grave was exhumed and a fresh medical examination was carried out.
The initial findings of the eight-member medical board have revealed two particularly significant details: signs of violence were found on Mir Raza’s body, while the bullet is reported to have entered from behind.
These findings have added fresh weight to the family’s long-standing doubts about the circumstances of his death.
Mir Raza had gone missing from Karachi’s
Ferozabad area before his body was recovered from Gulistan-e-Johar on July 29. His death was initially described as a gunshot case, but serious questions were later raised over whether it was suicide or murder.
The fresh examination was conducted after an eight-member medical board, headed by Police Surgeon Dr Samia Syed, exhumed Mir Raza’s body at PECHS Cemetery on Saturday.
The board collected samples and other evidence for chemical and forensic analysis. According to sources, the fresh findings also address the 14 serious objections previously raised by Dr Samia Syed over the first postmortem.
Those objections included the failure to conduct an X-ray, the absence of hand samples for gunshot residue testing, inadequate examination of firearm injuries, and insufficient documentation of the bullet’s entry and exit trajectory.
Questions were also raised over why a DNA sample had not been collected despite the condition of Mir Raza’s face, along with concerns about the documentation of injuries and forensic photography.
The issue became even more controversial after the medical board was unexpectedly changed. A new five-member board had initially been formed, but Mir Raza’s family refused to accept it and raised serious concerns.
Just before the exhumation, however, the authorities restored the original eight-member board, again appointing Dr Samia Syed as its convener.
The restored board includes experts from Dow University and forensic identification specialists, along with other medical members.
Mir Raza’s lawyer, Jibran Nasir, had questioned why the medical board was being repeatedly changed and why there was a need to alter it “overnight.”
Meanwhile, Mir Raza’s father, Mir Hussain Ali, has consistently maintained that his son was murdered. Speaking to the media, he questioned who was being protected in the case and pointed out that the doctor who conducted the first postmortem, Dr Usama, was reportedly unavailable.
The family’s concerns stand in contrast to the Karachi Police position that investigators were around 90% convinced that the death was a suicide, with police saying Mir Raza was under severe financial pressure and burdened by debt.
Now, the fresh postmortem findings — particularly the reported signs of violence and the indication that the bullet entered from behind — have put the circumstances of Mir Raza’s death under renewed scrutiny.
However, the medical board’s final report and forensic analysis will be crucial in determining what exactly happened to Mir Raza and whether the injuries were consistent with murder, suicide, or another explanation.
For now, one thing is clear: the questions surrounding Mir Raza’s death are far from settled.
