Even celebrities are not immune to X’s recent follower drop trend. Bollywood actor Anupam Kher revealed that he lost nearly 900,000 followers in just 15 days, prompting questions about what’s happening on the platform.
Other users, including an account named “Donald Trump Update,” also reported losing thousands of followers in a short span. Even global stars like Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Cristiano Ronaldo have been affected.

The drop is part of X’s “bot clean-up” campaign, which removed millions of fake and inactive accounts to ensure follower lists reflect real users.
In October 2025 alone, 1.7 million bot accounts were removed from threads. The platform aims to reduce spam, fake engagement, and improve transparency for its users

.

While the campaign has sparked some surprise and concern, it’s ultimately a move to make social media interactions more authentic.
