After cricket legends like Azharuddin, Kapal Dev, Shahid Afridi, Syed Kirmani, and Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers has spoken out against the Indian cricket team’s controversial decision during Asia Cup 2025.
In a recent YouTube video, de Villiers criticized India for refusing to receive the Asia Cup trophy from ACC President and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, calling it a move that brought politics into the sport.
He said, “The Indian team wasn’t happy about who was giving the trophy. Cricket and politics should stay separate. The game should be celebrated on its own merit.”
De Villiers added, “It was disappointing to watch, but I hope future incidents are handled better. The players and the sport were put in a tough situation, and the environment became quite uncomfortable.”
The incident at the end of Asia Cup 2025, where India refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, sparked widespread debate in the cricketing world, raising questions about sportsmanship and politics in cricket.
