An unprecedented situation unfolded during the recent Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Dubai, chaired by ACC President and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
According to sources, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla repeatedly demanded the Asia Cup 2025 trophy. Mohsin Naqvi, however, firmly responded, saying:
“If India really wants the trophy now, then Suryakumar Yadav himself should come to my office and take it.”
Media reports suggest that Shukla kept pressing for the trophy during the session, but Naqvi made it clear that “this matter is not part of the agenda.”
Sources further revealed that the Asia Cup was a major success with record viewership, and the next tournament will be hosted by Bangladesh in 2027.
Naqvi also reminded the Indian officials that he was personally present on stage after the final to hand over the trophy, but it was India’s team that refused to accept it. He added: “If India wants the trophy now, they should either collect it from the ACC office or arrange a formal ceremony to receive it.”
The meeting also witnessed no decision on the post of ACC Vice President, as both candidates withdrew their nominations.
According to reports, Rajeev Shukla attended the meeting online, but after the trophy issue remained unresolved, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia walked out of the conference.
