India, Russia can take their ‘dead’ economies down together.
U.S. President Donald Trump has lashed out at growing ties between India and Russia, saying he doesn’t care what they do—“they can drag their dead economies down together.”

In a fiery social media post, Trump said the U.S. has done very little trade with India because of its sky-high tariffs—“the highest in the world.” He also pointed out that America barely trades with Russia and wants to keep it that way.

Taking a jab at former Russian President Medvedev, Trump added, “Someone tell him to watch his words—he still acts like he’s in charge.”
Trump accused India of moving into “dangerous territory” by strengthening trade and energy ties with Russia, especially while the world is urging Russia to end the war in Ukraine.
Earlier, on his Truth Social platform, Trump said India may be a friend, but its tough trade barriers and high tariffs have led to a growing trade deficit with the U.S.
He also criticized India for relying heavily on Russian weapons and becoming one of the biggest buyers of Russian energy—alongside China.
Warning of action, Trump said India could face a 25% tariff along with extra penalties for dealing with Russia—starting August 1. He said the goal is to cut America’s trade deficit, especially with countries it imports from.
While Trump made the announcement online, the White House hasn’t officially commented yet. The move is being seen as a bold new twist in U.S. trade policy—and one that could heat up tensions with New Delhi.
