The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has sounded the alarm over a new wave of WhatsApp scams that could lead to account hacking and data theft.
According to PTA, people across Pakistan are receiving fake WhatsApp messages—some from local numbers, others from international ones. These messages look official, complete with the WhatsApp logo and a fake verification link, tricking users into believing it’s from WhatsApp itself.
The message usually says something scary like:
“Your account will be closed!”or
But don’t fall for it!
PTA says these links are malicious traps designed to steal your personal data or hack into your WhatsApp account.
“These fake messages are part of a wider cyber-attack targeting users in Pakistan,” PTA warned, urging everyone to stay sharp and never click on shady links.
The golden rule?
If a message feels suspicious or asks for personal info—delete it immediately. And remember:
WhatsApp will never ask for your password, codes, or links via random messages.
This warning comes as cybercrime is on the rise, and hackers are using new tricks to target everyday users.
