Shalwar Qameez Not Allowed ! Restaurant in Hot Water Over ‘Classist’ Policy

-

KARACHI: A storm is brewing in Karachi’s dining scene after a local restaurant allegedly refused entry to a man for wearing shalwar qameez — calling it “cheap dressing,” as per the complainant.

Abdul Latif, a lawyer by profession, says he was humiliated at a posh eatery on May 18 when staff denied him service solely based on his traditional attire.

Latif claims a waiter told him food service was “unavailable” due to his dress code, and the manager went further — allegedly branding shalwar kameez as “cheap” and even threatening to throw him out if he created a scene.

Feeling insulted, Latif sent a legal notice to the restaurant. But with no response from the management, he has now taken the matter to the Consumer Court, demanding accountability.

The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many calling it “classist,” “disrespectful,” and “an insult to cultural identity.”
